Air Force Ball - Diamond Formation
Every year, Air Gordon's Air Force Ball Council selects a team to orchestrate the annual celebration of the military branch's inception - dating back to September 18th, 1947. From 2018 to 2023, I steered the multimedia division of the council, executing the full array of package design for the local event's branding and identity needs. From initial logo concept to final production, I provided the committee with proof-of-concepts, digital exports, and quotes for products and merchandising to include coins and patches featuring the featured designs.
The Process
The 2022 Air Force Ball features my proposed overall theme of "Diamond Formation", an idea that the event’s annual committee officially accepted. The concept merges the representation of a traditional 75th “diamond” anniversary with the aviation term used for the specific orientation of four aircraft in a “diamond” formation, as seen within the design. Furthermore, the silhouettes depict F-22 fighter aircraft, mirroring the year 2022.
The design maintains consistent geometric patterns in groups of four; four sides, four points, four wings, four aircraft. The featured blue gradient embodies both the high-flying spirit of the Air Force and the prismatic gleam of a faceted diamond crystal. A white-outlined stroke adds visual contrast so as to not lose the details of the outer emblem against dark backgrounds.
Using this logo, I subsequently built layouts for all printed media used throughout the event, including double-gate brochures, tickets, posters, invites, signs, and other miscellaneous stationery items. I coordinated the print-ready files with third-party companies to professionally print the necessary amount of material in bulk. In addition, this year I pushed the envelope to oversee the print process of velcro patches, metal souvenir coins, tokens, and cake - all emblazoned with the design - for distribution.
